Alias - PS2 (2002) |
Environments |
I created these environments during the pre-production phase of Alias. Initially they served to help define the world construction rules such as scale, object relative scales, doorway and corridor widths etc. From there I proceeded to explore lighting and texturing effects which we would eventually have running in real-time in our game engine. All of the scenes presented here ran real-time on our GameCube test harness. |
I modeled, textured and lit these environments using 3DS Max 4.0 and painted all the scene textures in Photoshop 7.0 As the target platform for Alias was the PS2 all the scene geometry and textures were very conservative. For the two images above the geometry was no more than 400 quads and used 512Kb of textures. The next two preceding images were modeled along with my good friend and then colleague Ed Thomas. I then lit and textured the scene using wood as a nice reference point for the cavern walls. |
